Turkey accedes to the European Patent Convention

A European patent application filed on or after 1 November 2000 can include Turkey amongst its list of designations.

In the case of an International (PCT) application entering the European regional phase, Turkey may be designated only where the International application was filed on or after 1 November 2000.

A single European patent application can now be used to obtain patent protection in a total of twenty-six European states including the twenty full members of the European Patent Convention and in six "extension states". Amongst the members states are all of the members of the European Union. According to the European Patent Office, the combined population of these twenty-six states exceeds 450 million. The fees for a European patent application remain at a level lower than they have been for many years.
