UK Patent Office Consultancy on Software and Business Method Patents

Last year, the Patent Office consulted with interested parties as to future developments in the law relating to patents for computer software and business methods.  Its results and recommendations have now been published, and can be read here.

My impression is that the Government's intention is to keep the extent of patentability of computer-related inventions just about the same as it is now, but with a degree of codification of the current state of practice in amendments to statute law.

I hope that this will lead to a better understanding of patentability. New inventions are patentable. The question of whether or not they are implemented in computer software is normally not of particular importance.
