NEWS Community Trade Mark Fee Reduction The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM), the body that administers the Community Trade Mark, has reduced the application and registration fees. This is of immediate benefit to applicants. In most cases, it is now possible to obtain a ten-year trade mark registration for all twenty-five member states of the European Union for under £1800. Applications that are already on file will also benefit from the reduction in the registration fee. Background The first community trade mark applications were filed over ten years ago, and this means that the first renewal fees are now being paid. Since this is a source of extra income for OHIM with a minimum of extra work, this extra income is being passed on to applicants as reductions in renewal and registration fees. In most cases, the cost of filing an application is now £880 and the cost of paying the registration fee is £900 (typically payable 10 to 15 months after filing the application). These are typical costs; a quotation will be offered for any specific proposed application. They include professional charges and official fees, but VAT will be added. see my Trade Marks Information page.
